About Augusta

Home Guide

An independent, editorially-driven resource for CSRA homeowners — built by local contractors, data analysts, and real estate professionals who live and work right here in Augusta.

Our Mission

Independent Homeowner Intel — No Pay-to-Play

Why We Exist

Most home improvement content online is written by generalist freelancers who have never set foot in Augusta — or by lead-generation companies whose real product is your phone number. We built Augusta Home Guide to be the opposite: every article, every cost estimate, and every contractor recommendation comes from people who actually know CSRA homes because they have worked on them.

We are not a marketplace. We do not accept payment for placement in our contractor directory. We do not run sponsored posts disguised as editorial content. When we recommend a contractor or publish a price range, it is because the data supports it — full stop.

Editorial Independence

Augusta Home Guide is funded entirely by reader support — through our free newsletter subscriptions and site traffic. We have never taken money from a contractor, a building materials supplier, or a home services platform in exchange for coverage. Our editorial team operates with complete independence: no advertiser sees our content before publication, and no one outside the newsroom has input on our ratings or rankings.

Our cost data comes from real contractor invoices, permit filings, material supplier quotes, and homeowner interviews — not from national-average calculators or pay-per-lead estimates. When we publish a price, it reflects what Augusta homeowners actually paid within the last 90 days.

Our Process

How We Research & Verify — Step by Step

Publishing a cost guide is not a one-and-done. Every estimate goes through a six-step process designed to catch errors, outdated pricing, and regional mismatches before it reaches you.

01

Local Contractor Surveys

Every quarter, we send detailed pricing questionnaires to over 120 licensed contractors across Richmond, Columbia, and Aiken counties. We collect line-item estimates for 40+ common home improvement jobs — from a simple concrete patio pour to a full architectural shingle roof replacement. Each response is verified against at least two additional sources before inclusion.

02

Permit Data Analysis

We pull and analyze building permit filings from Richmond County Planning & Development, Columbia County Building Standards, and the City of North Augusta monthly. Permit valuations give us real transaction-level data on what homeowners are actually paying — not what they were quoted. We cross-reference job scopes with our contractor survey data to identify outliers.

03

Material Supplier Price Tracking

Concrete per-yard pricing from CSRA ready-mix suppliers, asphalt shingle per-square pricing from local roofing supply houses, and lumber by the board-foot from Augusta lumber yards — we track 18 material categories quarterly. Material costs typically represent 40–60% of any home improvement project, so our pricing stays accurate even when supply chains shift.

04

On-Site Job Verification

Our editors conduct a minimum of six on-site job walk-throughs per quarter across different Augusta neighborhoods. We measure actual square footage, note site conditions such as slope, access, and soil type, photograph work in progress, and compare the contractor's final invoice against our published cost ranges. If an estimate is off by more than 12%, we update it immediately.

05

Homeowner Interview Program

We maintain a panel of over 60 Augusta-area homeowners who share their actual project costs, contractor experiences, and timeline data with us after completing home improvement work. These real-world cost reports — including change orders, unexpected overages, and the hidden costs contractors rarely disclose — inform both our pricing tables and editorial coverage.

06

Quarterly Review & Repricing

All cost data on Augusta Home Guide is reviewed and repriced every calendar quarter. In January, April, July, and October, the entire pricing database is refreshed using the latest round of contractor surveys, permit data, and material quotes. Every published guide displays its Last Updated date so you know exactly how fresh the numbers are.

Last Full Data Refresh: July 2026

All pricing tables, contractor listings, and neighborhood profiles were refreshed with Q3 2026 data. Our next comprehensive update is scheduled for October 2026, with interim corrections published as new data becomes available from our quarterly contractor survey cycle.

Contractor surveys: 127 responses received Permit records: 340 filings analyzed Material quotes: 18 categories updated

See something that needs updating?

We refresh our data every quarter, but the CSRA market moves fast. If you spot an outdated price, a closed contractor, or anything that does not look right, we want to hear about it. Every correction makes the guide better for the next homeowner.
